Newport Nonprofits Unite Against Proposed Event Fee
Several nonprofits came out against a proposed new fee for special events at an Aug. 27 Newport city council meeting, effectively ending the proposal.
Though the city has proposed a 50 percent discount for nonprofits, organizations cited an upcoming uncertain fiscal year and current funding hurdles when opposing the new “impact recovery fee.” The fee was proposed to be based on event attendance, starting at $50 for special events under 100 people and as much as $4,000 for special events of 7,500 people or more.
